Feeling Great

Take Ten: Fast Fitness

We’ve got two quick workouts to give you fantastic bursts of energy throughout the day

Blast Fat and Get Lean

“The best 10-minute fat-blasting workout is a high-intensity interval, CrossFit-style workout,” says Angelo Gala, co-owner EDX CrossFit in Colorado.

How to Do It

Set your timer for 10 minutes and complete as many rounds as possible with perfect form:

  • Six burpees (squat thrusts)
  • 12 walking lunges (use dumbbells for more of a challenge)
  • Sprint (or do butt-kicks in place) for one minute

Why It Works

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been proven to show positive hormonal effects, promoting fat loss. “The 10-minute time forces pacing so you can’t sprint the whole workout,” says Gala, who trains elite athletes like rock climbers, Ironman athletes and CrossFitters.

This workout will leave you sweaty and ready to tackle the day. CrossFit is a powerhouse combo of bodyweight exercise, weight training and cardio. Equipment is optional, so do this workout anywhere.

Rising Yogi Energizing Flow

“Whether you’re in a time pinch or tired, the Rising Yogi Energizing Flow is a great way to move your body, connect with your breath, and release anxiety, tension and tightness,” says Namaste Jenay, a California-based yoga instructor and health coach.

How to Do It

  • Three Sun Salutations A
  • Three Sun Salutations B
  • Two Warrior 2 poses
  • Two Skandasana poses
  • Two Active Pigeons
  • Two Half Splits to Low Lunge
  • Bridge
  • Supine Twist
  • Figure 4, if you have time
  • Happy Baby, if you have time

Why It Works

You’ll get pumped and burn calories, so “keep your body moving,” Namaste Jenay says. “You can pause briefly to reconnect with your breath, but the more you move mindfully, purposefully and efficiently, the higher your heart rate and the more calories you’ll burn. You’ll also create more heat within your body, which is key to releasing and stretching.” And, you can do this yoga routine anywhere.
